Chambray or cambric is a lightweight cotton cloth used as fabric for lace and needlework. May look like a solid color but is yarn-dyed with white filling and dyed warp yarns -- dyed warp of one colour and dyed filling of another colour, or warp stripes of different colours. Modern chambray is made from Egyptian or American cotton and sometimes flax, but also polymer fibres can be added. Chambray is also used as a coating for professional playing cards, to protect them for longer and make them easier to handle. |  |
